eMartin Dance’s newest work Blood of the Earth is steeped in the textures of the Southern United States as experienced by the choreographer in childhood. Inspired in part by the work of North Carolina based visual artist Thomas Sayer’s work White Gold – each earth cast lay in pools of light and seemed alive in their rows, reclining in a field. The stage opens on this likeness, and the dancers emerge from a field of reclined bodies with movement developed in dialog with Sayre. This evening length work unfolds in three distinct sections defined by the characteristics of mud, water, and finally blood. We invite the audience to witness a new perspective on life outside of their own community and resonate with the images of land and body.

** What is a "True Cost" Ticket? A True Cost ticket is a new option that encompasses the actual cost of this dance production. In an effort to further audience education and sustainable arts practices in the Twin Cities, eMartin Dance has a ticket level that is the true cost of artist salaries, space rental, etc. We do not expect much of our audience to purchase tickets at this cost, and join the many dance companies throughout our community committed to arts accessibility through subsidized ticket prices. However, if you are able to purchase a "True Cost Ticket" we appreciate your effort to sustain dance in Minnesota and further our art as a cultural investment.
