A reimagining of RS’ long-running annual August production, The Cohort is built to support and share different perspectives on and via the vibrancy of jazz and American social dance ideas, now through both staged and screened works. This year's stage production The Cohort 2022 features work by:
Rae Charles (Local Artist & RS Company Member)
Kathleen Doherty (Visiting Artist - Halifax, NS Canada)
Erinn Liebhard (RS Artistic & Executive Director)
Laura Ann Smyth (Visiting Artist - Los Angeles, CA)
Charles’ new piece
Learning to Understand uses the metaphor of falling in love to explore how we come to understand ourselves and one another, and visitor Kathleen Doherty is remounting her work
BASS-line, which takes inspiration from how prominent basslines within music influence movement choices, rhythmic timing and shapes in the dancers’ bodies. Liebhard’s new work
An Opening is a musing on the synergy of keeping it together and breaking apart, and visitor Laura Smyth is setting her work
Character A/Musings, using the jazz idiom to consider the way in which we invent and reinvent ourselves throughout our lifetime.

*'Pay as you are' pricing asks folks to consider the set ticket price of $24.00: if an audience member needs to pay less than $24.00, they can choose to pay less. Those who can pay that set price or more are welcomed and encouraged to do so, and their generosity will help cover the cost of someone else’s ticket.
